Matthew Yu is a well-rounded elite high-achieving Grade 11 student at Collingwood School. Having received the prestigious Academic Scholar Award, Matthew is pursuing his studies in various disciplines, excelling in courses such as AP Calculus, AP Economics, and AP Physics. When Matthew was only 9 years old, he earned third place in CBC’s TV show Canada’s Smartest Person Junior, and has been featured by OMNI TV, Breakfast TV, and The Vancouver Sun. Beyond academics, Matthew has a strong passion for music, securing the bronze medal at the 2023 Canadian Music Competition. He further embraces his musical qualities when performing competitive figure skating, finishing as the first place overall Novice Men Skater in the BC Yukon Territory. Matthew is also an active contestant in speech & debate, having become the Champion Speaker at the Canadian Junior Speech Nationals. Matthew exemplifies strong leader qualities through initiating local, national, and international events. He is extremely passionate to share his knowledge and skills with younger students and to contribute to a strong community.
Jonathan is an exceptional student who excels academically, taking advanced courses such as AP Calculus and AP Biology through the Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth (CTY). In 2024, he was accepted into Harvard's Pre-College Program for a summer course on cancer research. His commitment extends beyond academics, as he consistently strives to support those in need. As a licensed EMR, Jonathan volunteers as an Emergency Medical Responder with St. John Ambulance, Division 1307, where he is dedicated to serving his community. He is also the author of two books: Preparing for Emergencies: Life-Saving Techniques for All Ages and Understanding Cancer: A Student's Guide to Cancer Biology, with proceeds going to Doctors Without Borders and the Canadian Cancer Society, respectively. Both books are available on Amazon, Kindle, and Barnes & Noble. Driven by a passion to make a difference, Jonathan is committed to helping others and fostering a supportive community. As an emerging global leader, Jonathan demonstrates his dedication to health equity and cultural enrichment through his roles as the founder of Youth Advocates for Global Health and Music Bridge Foundation Canada. By fostering collaboration and dialogue, he inspires his peers to join in his mission for positive change, effectively addressing global challenges through innovative initiatives.
